Chapter 9 - The Father's Vow

"You can't do this!" Vanessa sobbed, her high heels slipping on the marble as she was dragged away.

The guards violently hauled the weeping, panicking woman right across the pristine floor. Her desperate, pathetic cries faded into the distance, ending her reign of psychological cruelty, greed, and abuse forever. She was going to face the absolute, brutal reality of a cartel war she had started.

The grand dining room fell into a profound, heavy, and incredibly peaceful silence.

Dominic didn't care about the billions of dollars he had just lost in the severed alliance. He turned back to Claire and Noah. He was breathing heavily, his hands completely steady.

He gently set the small wooden horse on the table and took a slow step forward.

"Claire," Dominic whispered softly, tears of absolute devastation finally falling from his dark eyes. "I am so sorry. I thought I was protecting you by staying away. I never knew."

Claire looked at the terrifying mafia king. She saw the absolute, undeniable truth in his broken expression, realizing he had been just as violently manipulated as she had been.

"He's a good boy, Dominic," Claire wept, finally letting go of the suffocating weight she had carried for five years.
