Chapter 1 - The Scream in the Marble Hall

The breathtaking, opulent American mansion was usually a fortress of absolute silence, but this morning, the cold gray marble corridors echoed with pure, unhinged venom. Pale morning sunlight filtered through the towering floor-to-ceiling windows, casting long, sharp shadows across the grand sweeping staircase.
Standing on the lower steps, radiating fury, was Isabella Romano.
The elegant woman in her thirties wore a flowing white silk robe, a massive, flawless diamond engagement ring catching the sunlight as she pointed a shaking, manicured finger downward. Her beautiful face was twisted into a mask of cruel, arrogant disgust.
"Get out of my house!" Isabella screamed, her harsh voice echoing violently off the wrought-iron railings and stone walls.
At the bottom of the stairs, Rosa, a young woman in her twenties, dropped violently to her knees on the hard, unforgiving stone. The sharp impact caused her traditional black and white maid uniform to tear at the apron strings, but she didn't care. She wrapped her arms fiercely around her tiny, three-year-old daughter, Lily, her realistic facial micro-expressions reflecting sheer, breathless panic.
"Please, ma'am..." Rosa begged, trembling as she tried to shield the child with her own body. "She didn't mean to wander upstairs. I’ll keep her in the servant’s quarters! Please don't fire me!"

But three-year-old Lily did not cry. She didn't hide her face in her mother's apron. Wearing tiny yellow duck socks and a small, light-colored nightgown, the toddler stood perfectly still. With complete, innocent calm, the little girl reached her tiny hand up toward the furious woman towering over them.
👉 Isabella prepared to slap the child's hand away, but what she saw resting in the toddler's palm was about to freeze the blood in her veins.
