Chapter 9 - The Queen's Demise

"Damiano, please! It was for us! She was weak, she wasn't right for you!" Isabella begged, backing up the sweeping staircase, her bare feet slipping on the spilled tea and shattered porcelain. "I did it for our future!"
Don Moretti didn't raise his voice. He didn't have to.
He raised a single, commanding hand.
Four elite, heavily armed bodyguards immediately detached themselves from the shadows. They surged up the staircase, violently grabbing Isabella by the arms of her expensive white silk robe.
"Take the ring off her finger," Don Moretti ordered coldly. "Strip her of everything my money bought her. And throw her in the subterranean holding cells. I want her kept alive. When I am finished spending time with my daughter, I will go down to the basement and personally show Isabella exactly what happens to those who betray my blood."
"No! You can't do this! I am a Romano! My family will wage war!" Isabella wailed, thrashing in absolute, humiliated terror.
The guards didn't care. They effortlessly hoisted the screaming, kicking woman into the air, dragging her backward up the stairs and down the dark corridor toward the basement elevators. Her pathetic, desperate shrieks echoed through the mansion, growing fainter and fainter until the heavy steel doors slammed shut, swallowing her into the darkness forever.
