Chapter 1 - The Grand Staircase

The grand, luxurious American mansion was echoing with the cheerful sounds of a seventh birthday party. Dozens of wealthy guests, corporate partners, and family members mingled in the massive living room. A towering, beautifully decorated birthday cake sat on the center marble table.

But the cheerful music and loud conversations violently died the second the heavy oak doors at the top of the grand staircase clicked open.

Ethan, a handsome, thirty-something billionaire wearing a tailored dark suit, was holding a crystal glass of expensive champagne. He looked up toward the stairs, fully expecting to see his submissive, quiet wife coming down to cut the cake.

Instead, he completely froze.

The crystal champagne glass slipped through his trembling fingers, shattering into a hundred glittering pieces against the polished marble floor.

Descending the sweeping staircase was Claire. She was thirty-four, her blonde hair pulled into a flawless, razor-sharp updo. But she wasn't wearing a designer dress. She was wearing a highly decorated, immaculate dark blue United States Army senior officer dress uniform.

Her chest was covered in heavy, glittering medals and classified commendations.

She moved with a cold, terrifying, and incredibly commanding authority that completely paralyzed every single billionaire in the room.
