Chapter 4 - The Lady Behind the Wood

Medium shot: Before Leo could even reach out to pull her back, little Maya began walking.

Her tiny pink shoes clicked softly against the polished marble floor as she walked directly toward the forbidden section of the mansion. She wasn't afraid of the dark wood. She wasn't intimidated by the heavy antique metal lock hardware that terrified grown, heavily armed men.

Maya walked right up to the massive double doors. She reached up and placed her small, incredibly delicate hand entirely flat against the cold, dark wood. She tilted her curly head back, looking directly up at the heavy, rusted brass keyhole.

There was absolutely no dialogue in the hallway. There was only the subtle, incredibly eerie, and deeply chilling sound of the little girl's soft hand pressing against the forbidden wood, as if she were greeting an old, familiar friend hiding just on the other side of the heavy barrier.

Medium close-up: Leo remained frozen in his crouched position, staring at the little girl in pure, unadulterated disbelief. The terrifying, ruthless mafia boss looked completely paralyzed, completely undone by the innocent actions of a toddler.

The camera angle shifted rapidly. Little Maya slowly turned her head, looking back over her shoulder at her father. Her wide, bright blue eyes were entirely innocent, completely devoid of any fear or understanding of the terrifying situation.

"The lady behind that door," Maya stated. Her tiny voice was incredibly matter-of-fact, calm, and utterly chilling in its pure, simple honesty.
