Chapter 5 - The Metal Key

Wide shot: The terrifying, paralyzing shock completely evaporated from Leo’s muscular frame, instantly and violently replaced by a dark, lethal, and absolutely terrifying protective fury.
He stood up incredibly quickly from the marble floor. His entire body language shifted from a warm, gentle father into the rigid, highly aggressive, and extremely dangerous posture of an apex predator who had just discovered a lethal threat near his cub.
Leo didn't yell. He didn't call for his heavily armed security detail to storm the hallway.
He reached his large, calloused hand deep into the pocket of his dark trousers. He pulled out a heavy, incredibly thick, antique metal key. It was the only key in existence that could open the heavy lock hardware on the dark wood double doors, and he kept it on his person absolutely every single second of the day.
He took a slow, heavy step toward the doors. His face was a mask of pure dread mixed with an absolutely terrifying, unyielding determination.
There was absolutely no dialogue, only the heavy, deeply nervous, and incredibly tense sound of Leo's rapid breathing echoing in the quiet luxury hallway.
He knew exactly who was behind that door.
Three years ago, the entire criminal underworld believed that Leo's beautiful, beloved wife had been tragically killed in a massive, devastating car bomb orchestrated by a rival syndicate. Her funeral had been a massive event, and Leo had used his profound grief to ruthlessly eradicate his enemies, taking complete control of the city.
But the explosion had been a lie.
