Chapter 5 - The Deadly Whisper

The bright Manhattan sunlight seemed to catch the absolute fearlessness in Fiona’s eyes. She didn't raise her voice so the whole restaurant could hear. She wanted this execution to be deeply, terrifyingly personal.
Fiona leaned slightly closer to the towering billionaire.
Her voice dropped into a deadly, confident whisper, slicing through his massive ego with surgical precision.
"Check tomorrow's covenant filing before noon," Fiona whispered precisely.
The words were highly technical, deeply confidential, and absolutely catastrophic.
Grant’s chest stopped moving. The air in his lungs turned to ice. A covenant filing was the ultimate trigger in a leveraged corporate buyout—a clause that, if breached, meant a massive bank could immediately seize all of his collateral, liquidating his entire empire in seconds. It was a secret clause he had buried under six layers of shell companies. Only three people in the world knew about it.
And yet, the waitress in the pink apron had just quoted it directly to his face.

Grant’s heart slammed against his ribs. He slowly lowered Fiona’s cracked phone, his dark eyes wide with a sudden, creeping horror. He stared at her, desperately searching her face for any sign that she was just guessing. But her expression was a mask of cold, absolute certainty.
👉 Grant’s arrogance was completely gone, replaced by a desperate, frantic need to check if his empire was actually collapsing.
