Chapter 6 - The Frantic Verification

Grant didn't say a word to Fiona. He dropped her cracked smartphone onto the white tablecloth as if the glass had suddenly caught fire.
His hands, usually so steady when ordering the destruction of his enemies, were visibly shaking. He frantically reached into the inner pocket of his sharp white suit jacket and pulled out his own sleek, top-of-the-line encrypted smartphone.
He didn't care about the elite Wall Street crowd watching him. He didn't care about the pink and white floral arrangements or the expensive champagne getting warm on the table.
There was no dialogue. Just the frantic, desperate tapping of Grant's thumbs moving rapidly across the glass screen.
He bypassed his security firewalls, logging directly into his private offshore banking servers. Derek and Nolan exchanged nervous, highly tense glances. They had known Grant for ten years and had never once seen the ruthless billionaire sweat. But right now, a heavy bead of perspiration was rolling down the side of Grant's stubbled jaw.
Fiona simply stood there, resting her black serving tray against her hip. She watched him panic with the quiet, devastating patience of a spider watching a fly realize it was caught in the web.
