They did not reunite romantically immediately.
Love had survived in fragments.

Arthur entered therapy.
Madeline rebuilt work as a legal researcher.
They co-parented.
Argued.

Revised them.
One night, after the children’s first birthday, Arthur asked:
“Do you think there is any version of us left?”
Madeline answered:
“There is a version that never happened.”
He waited.
“And this version?”
“I don’t know yet.”
