Chapter 2 - The Stolen Medicine

Ethan stared down at the small white pill resting heavily in his open hand. His brow furrowed in deep, cinematic confusion. It looked exactly like the expensive, imported nerve-regeneration medication he took every single morning. He took a slow, deliberate breath, his tactical mind trying to process the child's words.

"Where did you get this, Maya?" Ethan asked carefully, his deep voice weak but intensely focused.

Maya didn't flinch. She leaned in closer, reaching deep into the pocket of her yellow floral dress. She pulled out a clear plastic sandwich bag completely filled with identical, unprescribed white pills.

"Under your kitchen cabinet," Maya replied calmly, her tone completely devoid of childish exaggeration. "She threw your real medicine in the trash and put these in your orange bottle instead."

A medium close-up captured Sophia standing in the background. Her stunning, devoted bride facade violently shattered in a fraction of a second. Her perfectly contoured face turned the color of wet chalk. Her eyes widened into a cold, panicked glare as she realized the housekeeper's nine-year-old child had just entirely exposed her meticulous, deadly plan.

A tight close-up shifted back to Ethan’s face.

The physical weakness in his eyes vanished completely. The exhausted, dying groom was instantly replaced by the sharp, terrifying intellect of a ruthless CEO.

He had spent the last six months undergoing aggressive physical therapy, but instead of getting stronger, his muscles were rapidly deteriorating. His heart rate was erratic. His doctors were baffled. He thought his body was simply failing him.

He hadn't been failing. He had been systematically, deliberately poisoned by the woman standing directly behind him in a white dress.

Ethan slowly closed his fingers, crushing the single white pill inside his powerful fist. He didn't move his paralyzed legs under the dark grey blanket. He remained perfectly, dangerously still, calculating his next move with cold precision.

He slowly lifted his head, locking his dark, piercing eyes directly onto his horrified bride.
