Chapter 5 - The Legal Screen

Claire pulled her sleek smartphone out of her black handbag.

She didn't hand it to him. She didn't throw it. She held it up deliberately, letting the bright light of the phone screen illuminate the tense space between them.

Ryan’s terrified eyes locked onto the display.

There was no active browser. There were no text messages from angry friends. The screen clearly displayed an ongoing, active phone call. And above the pulsing green audio waves, the contact label read with crystal-clear perfection: Legal.

Ryan stopped breathing. His chest heaved as a cold, suffocating wave of panic slammed into him.

He knew what that department meant. It wasn't just divorce lawyers. It was Claire’s family’s corporate legal team—a ruthless pack of multi-million-dollar litigators who handled hostile takeovers and wiped out anyone who crossed the empire.

Ryan lunged forward, his hands grasping desperately at the air. "Claire, wait! Don't do that! We can divide the assets—"

Claire completely ignored his desperate plea. She turned her back on him with absolute disdain, treating him like a piece of trash left on the floor.

👉 Ryan had just realized he was entirely ruined, but Claire’s final words to the phone were about to seal his eternal doom.
