Chapter 7 - The Grounding

The private jet banked sharply, the gentle tilt of the wings signaling the forced turnaround.
Inside the cabin, the heavy silence was deafening. The mistress in the white fur shawl was clutching her designer purse, her eyes darting nervously between Ryan, who was still weeping into his hands, and Claire, who stood like a statue of vengeance in her striking red suit.
"You can't do this to me!" Ryan choked out, finally lifting his head, his eyes bloodshot and desperate. "I helped build this life!"
"You married into it, Ryan," Claire corrected coldly, her slow eye movement sweeping over him with profound disgust. "And you forgot whose name is on the deed to every single asset you ever touched."
She turned her back on him permanently, walking down the aisle toward the front exit hatch as the plane began its rapid descent toward the private tarmac below.
Twenty minutes later, the jet touched down with a heavy, muted thud against the runway. The door hissed open, flooding the cabin with the harsh, glaring lights of the private hangar.
Waiting outside at the bottom of the metal stairs were two armed corporate security guards and a federal bailiff holding a thick stack of breach-of-contract paperwork.
