Chapter 1 - The Yellow Rain Boots

The grand, heavily guarded foyer of the luxury American mansion was a terrifying fortress. Crystal chandeliers cast a warm, intimidating glow over the polished marble floors. A dozen massive, heavily armed syndicate enforcers wearing black suits lined the sweeping staircase, their faces stony and merciless.

But the suffocating, lethal tension in the room wasn't caused by a rival cartel. It was caused by a five-year-old girl.

Little Lily stood completely alone in the center of the vast marble floor.

She had bright blonde hair and was wearing a faded pink winter coat over a simple floral dress. On her feet were bright yellow rain boots, accidentally put on the wrong feet. She was clutching a battered, heavily loved stuffed rabbit tightly against her tiny chest.

She wasn't crying. She was entirely, breathtakingly fearless.

Standing right in front of her was Dominic. He was in his late thirties, the most ruthless, undisputed mafia boss in New York. He wore a sharp black suit with an unbuttoned white shirt, his hands covered in dark, intricate tattoos.

Dominic slowly dropped to one knee, crouching down to the little girl's eye level. The armed guards in the background physically froze, their hands resting on their holstered weapons in absolute shock at the child's intrusion.

"Why did you fire my mom?" Lily asked, her innocent voice echoing loudly through the silent, terrifying mansion.

Dominic stayed perfectly still. His ruthless demeanor shifted into deep, genuine confusion as he stared at the little girl in the yellow rain boots.

"Who is your mother?" Dominic asked, his voice low and cold.

Lily squeezed her stuffed rabbit. She looked dead into the eyes of New York's most feared executioner without a single ounce of fear.

"Sophia Carter," Lily answered, clear and steady.
