Chapter 4 - The Basement Trap

Vanessa wore a stunning, blood-red designer dress. She crossed her arms, looking at Dominic holding the little girl in the yellow rain boots.
"I see the little rat found you," Vanessa sneered, entirely confident in her untouchable status as a cartel princess. "I found out about your pathetic little peasant girlfriend, Dominic. She actually had the nerve to apply for a housekeeping job here under a fake name just to get close to you."
Dominic didn't blink. His dark eyes were pitch black, entirely devoid of human mercy.
"Unlock the door," Dominic whispered softly.
"No," Vanessa laughed cruelly. "I fired her this morning, but I realized she might try to steal from us. So I locked her down there to teach her a lesson about trying to infiltrate my home. Her brat was supposed to run out the front door, not bother you."
The cinematic realism of the absolute, crushing evil taking place in the hallway paralyzed the guards standing behind Dominic.
Sophia hadn't come to steal. She was a desperate, struggling single mother who had taken a housekeeping job under a false name just to ensure she could afford to feed their daughter, completely unaware she was cleaning the house of her former lover.
"Unlock the door, Vanessa," Dominic repeated. The freezing, lethal frequency in his voice made the air in the hallway drop ten degrees.
