Chapter 2 - The Ghost of Sophia

The cinematic realism of the absolute, breathless silence in the grand foyer was suffocating.

A tight close-up captured Dominic’s sharp, handsome face. The absolute second Lily said the name Sophia Carter, all the color violently drained from his skin. His dark eyes widened, and he physically stopped breathing.

Sophia wasn't just a former employee.

Six years ago, Sophia had been the only woman Dominic had ever truly loved. She was a brilliant, kind civilian who had no idea he was the heir to a massive criminal empire. When an assassination attempt nearly killed him, Dominic realized Sophia would always be a target. To protect her, he intentionally broke her heart. He framed himself as a monster, brutally pushed her away, and vanished into the underworld, entirely severing all contact to ensure she remained safe.

He hadn't seen or heard from her in six agonizing years.

Dominic’s heavily tattooed hands began to tremble slightly. He leaned in closer to the tiny, blonde child, his chest tightening with an overwhelming, terrifying realization.

"Why are you here, little bird?" Dominic whispered, his voice breathless and cracking with sudden vulnerability.

Lily tilted her head innocently. She looked straight at the terrifying billionaire and dropped a secret that completely stopped time in the room.

"Mommy says you're my daddy," Lily answered softly.

An extreme close-up captured the cold, untouchable mafia boss facade completely shattering into sheer disbelief and overwhelming paternal realization.

He had a daughter.

"Where is your mother, Lily?" Dominic choked out, his heart hammering violently against his ribs.

"In the basement," Lily answered. "A mean lady locked her downstairs and told me to come find the boss."
