Chapter 6 - The Ghost Unveiled

The black SUV skidded to a halt directly behind the firing line.

Two men in dark suits stepped out, completely ignoring military protocol. They didn't salute Colonel Mercer. They walked directly past the stunned, silent infantrymen and stopped in front of Emma.

One of the men held up a secure, encrypted tablet. "Carter. The extraction is confirmed. Wheels up in twenty minutes."

"Understood," Emma replied smoothly. Her quiet, submissive support-soldier persona evaporated entirely. Her voice dropped into a cold, authoritative, incredibly dangerous register.

Colonel Mercer finally snapped out of his paralyzing shock. "What the hell is going on here?!" he demanded, marching forward. "This soldier is under my command! She is scheduled for disciplinary review for failing a basic qualification range!"

The man in the suit turned and looked at Mercer with absolute, unadulterated disgust.

"She isn't under your command, Colonel," the suited man stated coldly. "She hasn't been for four years."

He pulled a classified federal badge from his jacket and held it up.

"Private Carter is a Tier-One deep cover operative for the Defense Intelligence Agency," the agent explained, his voice echoing over the silent range. "She was embedded in your logistics unit to track a massive black-market weapons smuggling ring operating directly out of your armory."

Mercer physically staggered backward as if he had been shot.

The infantrymen of Combat Group Charlie turned pale, suddenly realizing the "weak" girl they had just spent thirty minutes mocking was actually one of the most lethal, highly trained assassins on the continent.

👉 The federal agent wasn't finished, and the career-ending bombshell he dropped on Mercer would destroy the Colonel's life.
