The dinner invitation came from Ethan.
Private.
No staff.
No business.
He said he wanted to apologize.
Emily nearly refused.
Then he sent a photograph of signed separation papers.
He said he would release her financially and cooperate.
Emily brought her phone.
She also wore a small encrypted recorder beneath her dress.
The dinner began quietly.
Margaret wore red velvet.
Sheriff Miller attended unexpectedly.
Dr. Price arrived after dessert.
A family dinner with a sheriff and psychiatrist was not reconciliation.
It was a legal setup.
Margaret placed a folder on the table.

Emily refused.
Ethan begged.

Emily had never been pregnant.

Emily stood.
