Chapter 7 - THE SEALED FOLDER
The folder contained twelve warrants.
But it also contained something Victoria did not expect.
A photograph of her late husband, Daniel Hart.
He had died seventeen years earlier in a training accident.
At least, that was the official story.
The photograph showed Daniel entering Prescott Biotech with Margaret’s late husband, William Prescott.
Date: six days before his death.
Daniel had investigated illegal medical surveillance contracts.
Prescott Biotech supplied behavioral-monitoring systems to military hospitals.
The contract was canceled after Daniel died.
Evidence disappeared.
William built a civilian version.
St. Catherine’s Floor Nine used it.
The system monitored patients continuously, flagged resistance, and generated language for psychiatric notes.
Daniel had discovered the prototype.
Victoria looked at Agent Reed.
“How long have you known?”
“Two weeks.”
“You waited.”
“We needed confirmation.”
“My daughter was inside.”
“Yes.”
The answer was not soft.
It was operational.
Victoria hated it.
She also understood.
The case connected her husband’s death, her daughter’s abuse, and Margaret’s empire.
