Chapter 2 - The Fiancée's Disgust

The cinematic realism of the absolute, breathless silence in the grand foyer was suffocating.
Lorenzo, a man who had ruled the city's underworld with an iron fist for fifteen years, was entirely paralyzed by the profound, devastating truth in the little girl's eyes. He looked down at the dirty, shivering golden retriever sitting on his expensive shoes, and for the first time in his life, he didn't see an annoyance. He saw a reflection.
Before Lorenzo could even speak, the sharp, aggressive click of designer heels echoed down the grand marble staircase.
"What in God's name is that filthy animal doing in my foyer?" a shrill, toxic voice demanded.
Stepping into the sunlight was Camilla. She was Lorenzo’s thirty-something fiancée, an incredibly glamorous but deeply cruel woman wearing a blood-red designer dress. She looked at the maid, the little girl, and the dirty puppy with pure, unadulterated disgust.
"Elena, you stupid woman!" Camilla shrieked at the terrified maid. "I told you to keep your rat of a child in the servant's quarters! Get that disgusting mutt out of this house right now, and pack your bags! You are fired!"
Elena gasped, tears of pure terror flooding her eyes. She lunged forward to grab Mia, fully expecting Lorenzo to agree with his beautiful fiancée.
But Lorenzo didn't move.
His sharp, masculine jawline locked. The soft, vulnerable moment he had just shared with Mia instantly evaporated, violently replaced by the cold, terrifying apex predator.
"Elena isn't going anywhere," Lorenzo stated, his deep voice dropping into a dark, freezing register that echoed off the marble walls.
Camilla stopped mid-step on the stairs, her flawless face turning pale with shock. "Lorenzo, darling, it has diseases—"

"The dog stays," Lorenzo commanded with absolute, titanium authority. He looked at Elena. "Take the puppy to the kitchen. Feed him. And nobody speaks to you like that again. Do you understand?"
👉 Camilla smiled tightly and agreed, but her eyes flashed with a lethal, venomous promise of revenge.
