Chapter 3 - The Secret Daughter

Serena sneered in disgust, turning to Victor. "Keep the guards outside the ICU. Don't let anyone in. I'll deal with this stubborn doctor myself."
As Serena stormed down the hall to make a phone call, Claire slipped quietly past Victor and entered Dante’s intensive care room.
The room was bathed in soft, warm lighting. Dante lay bare-chested beneath a light blue hospital sheet, heavy white dressings securing the wounds on his chest and shoulder. Medical monitoring leads tracked his slow, steady heartbeat.
Claire stood silently beside his bed, her heart hammering against her ribs.
Slowly, agonizingly, Dante opened his dark brown eyes. The anesthesia was wearing off. He was weak, but he was incredibly alert. He turned his head and studied Claire's beautiful, exhausted face.
"You stayed," Dante whispered weakly, his voice rough but filled with a profound, earth-shattering emotion.
"I'm your doctor," Claire replied, her voice trembling slightly.
Claire’s professional composure finally softened. She couldn't hide the truth anymore. Serena was trying to kill him, and Dante needed a reason to fight back with everything he had. Claire took one careful, deep breath, holding his intense, piercing gaze.
She leaned down, the space between them agonizingly intimate.
"You have a daughter," Claire whispered quietly.
