Chapter 7 - The Syndicate's Trap

Victor screamed in agony as his shoulder popped under the weight of the massive enforcers.
Serena physically staggered backward, her flawless face turning the color of wet ash. Her grand assassination plot had just violently unraveled in less than ten seconds. She was trapped in a locked room with the monster she had just tried to murder.
"Dante, please!" Serena wailed hysterically, completely abandoning her glamorous, elegant facade. She dropped to her knees beside the hospital bed. "Victor forced me to do it! He said he would kill me if I didn't help him! I love you!"
"You love my empire," Dante corrected softly, completely immune to her pathetic, fake tears.
Dante didn't yell. A quick outburst was far too generous for a woman who had tried to orphan his daughter.
With his free hand, Dante reached over to the bedside table and picked up his encrypted smartphone.
"While you were busy playing the grieving widow in my lobby," Dante stated coldly, "my cyber-team was actively tracing the wire transfers you sent to the hitmen who shot up my car."
Serena’s eyes widened in sheer, unadulterated horror.
"Initiate the complete liquidation of Serena's personal accounts," Dante ordered his Chief Financial Officer, putting the phone on speaker so the treacherous fiancée could hear her own devastation.
