Chapter 10 - The Breath of Life

"Vincent, please!" Eleanor sobbed hysterically, dropping to her knees in her expensive black gown, completely humiliated in front of the entire corporate board. "I just wanted it to be us! They took up all your time!"

"Call the police," Vincent ordered his men, his voice absolute ice.

Within minutes, sirens wailed up the long driveway. Police stormed the dining room, dragging a screaming, thrashing Eleanor out in handcuffs. She was charged with two counts of attempted murder and sentenced to thirty years in a maximum-security federal prison, stripped of her wealth and abandoned by high society.

Mrs. Harper bravely gave a full statement to the police, exposing the blackmail. Out of immense gratitude for protecting his family, Vincent ensured the older woman’s pension was tripled, allowing her to retire comfortably and safely with her son.

The very next morning, Claire opened all the windows in the nursery, letting the crisp, fresh Connecticut air flush out the toxic residue forever.

Within a week, the color returned to Leo and Sam's cheeks. Their cough disappeared entirely. They were laughing and running through the halls again.

Vincent completely fired the smart-home automation company. He walked into the nursery, watching Claire read a book to his healthy, smiling sons. The billionaire father looked at the brave nanny in the worn cardigan, finally realizing that the true heart of his home wasn't automated technology or wealthy fiancées—it was the fierce, unyielding love of the woman who had risked everything to save his world.

Do you think Eleanor's thirty-year sentence was enough, or did the cruel fiancée deserve even worse?
