Chapter 7 - The Confession in the Dark

Claire stepped down from the metal crate, walking directly up to the weeping house manager. She didn't yell. She didn't judge her. She just looked deeply into the older woman's terrified eyes.
"Mrs. Harper," Claire said gently, placing her hand on the woman's shaking shoulder. "I know you love those boys. You baked them cookies every Sunday before she moved in. You bandaged their knees."
Mrs. Harper covered her face, sobbing heavily into her hands. "They're just babies."
"Eleanor wants Vincent's fortune entirely to herself," Claire explained, her voice steady and resolute. "If the boys die from a 'mysterious illness,' she gets everything. And she will never stop blackmailing you. Once the boys are gone, she’ll find a way to get rid of you too. The only way to save your son is to completely destroy her."
Mrs. Harper lowered her hands. She looked at the toxic canister in Claire's grip. The paralyzing fear in the older woman's eyes slowly began to melt away, replaced by a deep, maternal anger.
"What do we do?" Mrs. Harper whispered, wiping her tears.
"Vincent is hosting a private dinner with his corporate board members tomorrow night," Claire said, a cold, cinematic determination settling over her features. "Eleanor wants to play the perfect, grieving future stepmother in front of the cameras. We are going to give her a show."
