Chapter 1 - The Bruised Cheek

The grand luxury dining room was a portrait of absolute wealth. Crystal chandeliers cast a warm, flickering light over the long mahogany table, illuminating tall white candles, pristine floral centerpieces, and formally dressed elite guests.
But at the head of the table, the elegant atmosphere had suddenly frozen into suffocating tension.
Julian, a handsome man in his thirties with dark wavy hair, a sharp beard, and a tailored black suit, stood up from his chair. He didn't look at his wealthy guests. He walked slowly around the table and stopped directly behind Olivia.
Olivia was a young woman in her twenties, wearing a classic black maid uniform with a stiff white collar and a white frilly apron. Her dark hair was pulled into a neat low bun. Her hands trembled violently as she gripped the handle of a heavy silver food cloche, preparing to serve the main course.
Julian gently reached out, placing his hand over hers to stop the rattling silver. He spoke gently, but with an authority that commanded the entire room.
"Olivia, look at me," Julian requested softly.
Olivia kept her eyes downcast. Her chest heaved with suppressed, terrified breaths. She didn't want to look up. She knew what he would see.
"Please, sir," Olivia whispered, her voice quiet, respectful, and breaking with fear.
Julian gently tilted her chin upward. The camera of the room's attention focused entirely on Olivia's pale face. Just beneath her left cheekbone was a dark, purplish bruise. It was fresh, angry, and undeniably the shape of a human handprint.
Before Julian could even process the violent injury, the woman sitting to his right abruptly spoke up.
Vanessa, an elegant woman in her late thirties wearing a dark red v-neck evening dress and dark drop earrings, forced a sharp, nervous laugh.
"She hit herself with the pantry door," Vanessa interrupted quickly, her tone defensive and entirely dismissive. "How clumsy."
Olivia’s breath hitched. She squeezed her eyes shut, but a tiny, instinctual rebellion slipped past her lips. She slightly shook her head.
"No," Olivia whispered.
Julian froze. He slowly released Olivia’s chin and turned his head sharply toward the woman in the red dress. His handsome face hardened, his expression instantly shifting from gentle concern to cold, lethal suspicion.
