Chapter 6 - The Grand Hall

Marcus slipped his smartphone back into the breast pocket of his dark navy suit. He turned away from the confused groom and walked purposefully toward the massive, heavy oak doors at the end of the stained-glass room.

"Marcus, where are you going?" Julian snapped, his voice losing its casual arrogance and pitching up with sudden annoyance. "The wedding march hasn't started yet!"

Marcus didn't answer. He gripped the brass handles of the double doors and pushed them violently open.

The doors swung wide, revealing a breathtaking grand hall. Crystal chandeliers glowed warmly over four hundred of the city’s most elite, powerful, and wealthy guests. Senators, CEOs, and socialites were all seated in perfectly aligned white chairs, waiting for the ceremony to begin.

The soft classical music playing from the string quartet immediately faded out as the guests turned their heads to look at the father of the bride standing in the doorway alone.

Elena remained standing in the back room, her white lace dress glowing in the stained-glass light.

Julian quickly stepped up behind Marcus, trying to force his arrogant, charming smile back onto his face for the crowd.
