Chapter 2 - The Ghost of Marisol
Luca didn't say a word as he crossed the marble floor. He moved with the silent, lethal grace of an apex predator.
Before the silver-haired man even realized someone was behind him, Luca’s massive, tattooed hand shot out. He forcefully grabbed the older man's wrist with bone-crushing pressure, instantly stopping him from pulling Emma any closer.
The older man gasped, his grip on Emma immediately releasing. Emma stumbled backward, clutching her bruised arm to her chest, her chest heaving with terrified sobs.
Luca towered over the guest. His face was extremely threatening, his jaw locked tight.
"Did she say you could touch her?" Luca asked. His voice wasn't loud, but it was incredibly cold and incredibly dangerous.
The older man rubbed his wrist, trying to recover his arrogant composure. He looked back at Luca, flashing a dismissive, patronizing laugh, completely unbothered by the boundary he had just crossed.
"Luca, relax," the older man chuckled, adjusting his grey patterned tie. "It's just a dance. The girl is overreacting."
Luca didn't blink. His grip on the man’s wrist tightened until the older man’s smile began to falter.
From behind Luca, Emma took a shuddering breath. Her tear-streaked face was pale, but a sudden surge of traumatized courage forced her to speak up. She couldn't let this happen to anyone else.
"Marisol said no too," Emma sobbed, her voice ringing out in the sudden quiet of their corner of the ballroom.
Luca froze. His entire body went rigid.
His dark expression darkened even more, the shadows of the chandelier completely masking his eyes. He slowly turned his head, his gaze leaving the older man and locking directly onto Vanessa.
Vanessa’s elegant posture instantly shattered. The color drained entirely from her perfectly contoured face.
Luca took a slow step toward his fiancée. He leaned in extremely close to Vanessa's face, staring at her with lethal, unblinking intensity.
