Chapter 6 - The Poisoned Goblet

The entire dining room felt like it had been plunged into a deep freeze.
"You lying little psychotic trash!" Vivian shrieked, lunging forward with her manicured claws aimed at Emma's face.
Julian moved with terrifying, blinding speed. He stepped between them, catching Vivian’s wrist in mid-air and shoving her violently backward into her heavy dining chair.
"Sit down," Julian roared, his voice shaking the crystal glasses on the table.
"Julian, she's making it up!" Vivian cried fake, hysterical tears, clutching her chest. "She’s a jealous, obsessed maid! She burned herself to frame me! Why would I be hiding in the pantry?"
Emma didn't back down. She pointed a trembling finger at the crystal wine glass sitting completely untouched next to Julian’s plate.
"Because she poured a vial of clear liquid into your wine, sir," Emma choked out, sobbing heavily. "I saw her do it. She poisoned your drink."
Vivian’s face turned the color of ash. She stopped breathing.
Julian slowly turned his head to look at his crystal goblet. The dark red liquid sat perfectly still under the candlelight.
He slowly picked up the glass by the stem. He held it up to the light, swirling it gently.
"A clear liquid," Julian mused softly, his voice devoid of any emotion. He looked at his panicked wife. "Tell me, Vivian. Is that why you were so incredibly insistent that we open this specific bottle of Cabernet tonight?"
"It's... it's a special occasion," Vivian stammered, her eyes darting toward the exits. "It's our anniversary week!"

"Drink it," Julian commanded, holding the glass out to her.
