Chapter 8 - The Unblinking Eye

Julian didn't even blink at the ridiculous accusation.

Instead, he calmly reached into the inside pocket of his tailored black suit jacket. He pulled out his sleek smartphone, tapped the screen a few times, and placed it face-up on the mahogany dining table.

"You see, Vivian," Julian said quietly, "when my blood tests came back positive for toxins three days ago, I knew someone in this house was trying to kill me. I just didn't know who."

Vivian stared at the phone, her eyes widening in pure horror as she realized what was on the screen.

"I assumed it was my business rivals paying off the kitchen staff," Julian continued, his voice dripping with lethal disgust. "So yesterday, while you were out spending my money on your designer dresses, I had my security team install hidden micro-cameras in the kitchen."

He hit the play button on the phone.

Crystal-clear, high-definition video played on the screen. It showed the interior of the butler’s pantry from the angle of the smoke detector.

It showed Vivian sneaking in. It showed her pouring the vial into the wine. It showed Emma bumping the cart. And, in horrifying, vivid detail, it showed Vivian grabbing the young maid by the hair and brutally blasting her wrist with boiling steam.

The audio of Emma’s agonizing scream echoed through the quiet dining room.

Vivian collapsed to her knees, hiding her face in her hands, sobbing hysterically. Her entire life of luxury, power, and deceit was completely destroyed in less than ten seconds of footage.

"You didn't just try to murder me," Julian said, towering over her. "You tortured an innocent girl to cover your tracks."
