Chapter 6 - The Private Investigator

Claire slowly stood up beside her son, her white tweed jacket completely flawless. She didn't look like a scared, traumatized victim. She looked like an absolute, untouchable titan.

"You aren't taking us to court, Vincent," Claire whispered smoothly, a chilling, triumphant smirk touching the corner of her lips.

Vincent scoffed aggressively. "You can't stop me, Claire! You don't have the money to fight my lawyers!"

"I don't need lawyers," Claire replied, her voice dropping to a freezing frequency. "Because I haven't believed you were dead for five years."

Sophia physically staggered backward in the aisle, the color violently draining from her face.

Claire reached into her elegant designer purse and pulled out a thick, heavily encrypted black folder. She didn't mourn blindly. When Noah was thirteen, Claire had noticed a minor discrepancy in an old tax document. She had quietly hired the most ruthless, expensive private intelligence firm in the country.

They had tracked Vincent and Sophia to a trashy, criminal life in Nevada. They had compiled massive, undeniable evidence of his staged death, his offshore wire transfers, and his extensive insurance fraud.

"I knew exactly where you were, Vincent," Claire announced to the dead-silent room. "I watched you blow through my inheritance. I watched you ruin your life. But I didn't call the police."

Vincent frowned, pure, unadulterated panic finally creeping into his dark eyes.

👉 Claire took a slow step forward, preparing to drop a nuclear bomb that would completely execute the villain.
