Chapter 2 - The Ghost in the Photo

The cinematic tension in the luxury office spiked to a paralyzing, breathless peak.
A tight close-up captured Vincent’s face. He looked down at the photograph in his hand. Instantly, the cold, terrifying mafia boss completely vanished. All the color violently drained from his face. His expression shifted from lethal calm to sheer, absolute, unadulterated shock.
The photograph showed a younger Vincent standing next to a beautiful woman with dark, flowing hair. They were smiling, wildly in love.
That woman was Clara.
Six years ago, Clara had been the love of Vincent's life. He had been planning to leave the syndicate entirely to marry her. But before he could, his ruthless older brother, Marco, had ordered a hit on her to ensure Vincent stayed in the family business. Vincent had been told Clara died in a massive warehouse explosion. He had buried an empty casket and spent the last six years ruling the city with absolute, merciless cruelty to numb the agonizing pain.
But Clara wasn't dead.
Vincent flipped the photograph over with violently trembling hands. Written in rushed, frantic ink on the back was a single, desperate sentence:
Vincent, they found us. Save our daughter.
Vincent stopped breathing. The cinematic realism of his profound, apocalyptic realization crashed over him.
He slowly looked up from the photograph, his dark eyes locking onto the little girl with the pink bows in her hair. She had his exact jawline. She had his exact piercing eyes.
She wasn't just a messenger. She was his flesh and blood.
"What's your name, sweetheart?" Vincent choked out, his deep voice cracking with raw, unfiltered emotion.

"Mia," the little girl answered softly.
👉 Vincent asked Mia where her mother was, and her innocent answer triggered the darkest, most violent rage of his life.
