Chapter 3 - The Abduction

"Mia," Vincent whispered, dropping to his knees beside his massive desk, completely ignoring his tailored suit. He gently grasped her small shoulders. "Where is your Mommy right now?"

Mia’s lower lip quivered. Her brave facade finally began to crack.

"Some bad men in a black van broke our front door," Mia sniffled, wiping her eyes. "Mommy hid me in the laundry chute. She gave me my backpack and told me to run to the big glass building and ask for you. She said you were the only one who could stop them."

Vincent’s blood turned to absolute ice.

"Did you see the men, Mia?" Vincent asked urgently. "Did they say anything?"

"One of them had a snake tattoo on his neck," Mia cried softly. "He told Mommy that Marco sent them to finish the job."

The name dropped like a live grenade in the luxurious office.

Marco. Vincent’s own older brother. The current underboss of the family. The man who had lied to Vincent for six years, pretending to grieve with him while secretly continuing to hunt the woman Vincent loved.

Marco had discovered Clara was alive. And he had taken her.

Vincent stood up. The desperate, heartbroken father instantly vanished, violently replaced by the most terrifying apex predator in Chicago. His dark eyes turned completely pitch black, devoid of any human mercy.

He looked at his two massive bodyguards.

"Take my daughter to the subterranean vault," Vincent commanded, his voice vibrating with absolute, demonic doom. "Lock the steel door. If anyone other than me tries to enter, kill them."

"Yes, Boss," the guards responded, gently leading the terrified little girl out of the room.
