Chapter 5 - The Father's Wrath

Medium close-up: Lucas stopped dead in his tracks. The heavy black suitcase slipped entirely out of his hand, crashing loudly against the pristine white marble floor.
The corporate executive didn't say a word to the housekeeper, and he didn't call out to his mother. He moved with the terrifying, unstoppable speed of a protective predator.
Lucas crossed the marble floor in three massive strides. He dropped entirely down to his knees right in front of the small wooden stool, completely ignoring his expensive navy blue suit pants against the dusty floor.
His face was flushed with a dark, boiling, and absolutely lethal fury. He looked at the blue food tray resting on his daughter's lap, and then looked back up into her tear-filled, frightened eyes.
"We are not doing this. Okay?" Lucas spoke. His voice was remarkably angry, firm, and vibrating with an intense, suppressed wrath that made the air in the hallway instantly freeze.
He reached out with his large, strong hands and carefully, gently took the blue food tray completely out of Maya's grasp, setting it aside on the floor.
Maya sniffled, nodding her head slowly, feeling an immense, overwhelming wave of absolute safety wash over her as her father's strong arms enveloped her in a fierce, protective embrace.
For the first time in a year, she knew she wasn't alone anymore.
