Chapter 2 - The Penthouse Retreat

The cinematic realism of the terrifying confrontation entirely shifted the atmosphere of the grand cathedral.
The corporate attorney wrenched his arm free, his face violently pale as he scrambled backward, completely terrified of the apex predator standing in front of him. He quickly melted into the crowd of wealthy mourners, abandoning his desperate attempt to steal the little girl's device, terrified that Vincent’s armed guards would execute him in the pews.
Vincent didn't chase him. He slowly crouched down, his expensive black suit brushing against the cathedral floor, bringing himself to Charlotte's eye level. He gently guided the trembling girl out of the church, surrounded instantly by two massive, towering bodyguards in black suits and ties.
Twenty minutes later, the heavy oak doors of Vincent’s modern, high-end American penthouse office locked shut.
The spacious office was a fortress of absolute power. Floor-to-ceiling glass windows offered a commanding, glittering view of the New York City skyline in the bright daylight.
Vincent sat heavily in a plush leather chair behind his dark wood desk. He looked deeply troubled, pressing his hand over his mouth as he processed the chaotic, violent disrespect he had just witnessed at his best friend's funeral.
Charlotte stood quietly right next to his massive leather chair. She wasn't holding the cracked digital recorder anymore. Her mother had managed to extract the audio file before the funeral. The little girl was now holding up a glowing smartphone, ready to show him the digital file.
Standing in the background of the pristine office was Charlotte’s mother, Elena. She was an elegant woman in her early thirties, with long wavy brown hair, wearing a sharp white blazer. She stood perfectly still, her arms crossed tightly over her chest, projecting a fiercely guarded, anxious energy.

"My mom said you need to hear this," Charlotte whispered quietly, her innocent voice cutting through the heavy silence of the penthouse.
👉 Vincent looked down at the glowing smartphone, completely unprepared to hear a ghost speak from the grave.
