Chapter 4 - The Lethal Injection
Sitting in the pitch-black office, Lorenzo and Marco stared at the glowing monitor of the surveillance system. Lorenzo had secretly installed the hidden cameras weeks ago to monitor the night nurses, completely paranoid about his daughter's safety.
He scrolled back to the footage from 2:00 AM the previous night.
The heavy mahogany doors of the medical suite pushed open. It wasn't a nurse who walked in. It was Camilla.
Lorenzo’s ruthless wife was wearing a luxurious silk robe, her perfectly contoured face completely devoid of the fake, motherly concern she displayed during the day. Moving with terrifying, calculated precision, Camilla walked past the sleeping nurse. She didn't stroke Sophie’s hair or check her temperature.
Camilla pulled a small, unlabeled glass vial from the pocket of her robe. She inserted a syringe into Sophie’s primary IV line and injected a clear, untraceable heavy-metal toxin directly into the sleeping child's bloodstream.
It was a slow, agonizing poison designed specifically to mimic a rare, degenerative genetic disease.
Camilla was brutally murdering her stepdaughter, drop by lethal drop. Her motive was sickeningly clear. She wanted Lorenzo to be so completely broken, so paralyzed by inconsolable grief, that he would voluntarily step down as the Boss of the syndicate, allowing Camilla’s brother to seamlessly seize control of the massive criminal empire.
