Chapter 4 - The Unspoken Truth

An extreme, cinematic close-up captured Lorenzo’s face.
The blood violently drained from his handsome face, leaving him looking like a terrified ghost. His dark grey eyes were wide with pure, unadulterated, breath-stealing shock.
He looked away from his identical reflection in the little girl's eyes and slowly looked up at Emma.
His highly tactical, brilliant mind was desperately doing the math in his head. He had left her exactly six years ago. The twins standing in front of him were exactly five years old.
The heavy, agonizing realization crashed over him with the force of a nuclear bomb. He had missed her pregnancy. He had missed the births. He had missed five entire years of his own children's lives because he had chosen a toxic empire over the woman he loved.
"Emma," Lorenzo choked out, his voice a breathless, completely broken whisper that only she could hear. "Are they—"
"Not here," Emma cut him off sharply, her voice barely a whisper but full of undeniable, fierce resolve.
She didn't deny it, and her absolute refusal to confirm it publicly was the only answer he needed.
