Chapter 7 - The Father's Plea

Lorenzo didn't try to touch Emma. He knew he didn't deserve to.
He completely bypassed the arrogance of his immense wealth and terrifying power. He looked at the single mother with profound, earth-shattering respect and deep, agonizing regret.
"I am so sorry, Emma," Lorenzo whispered, tears of absolute devastation finally falling from his dark grey eyes. "I was a coward. I left because I thought my world was too dangerous for you. I didn't know."
Emma looked at the terrifying mafia king. She saw the absolute, undeniable truth in his broken expression.
"They don't know you, Lorenzo," Emma replied softly, her voice trembling with years of buried exhaustion. "I won't let them be dragged into a war."
"They won't be," Lorenzo promised quietly, a fierce, unbreakable vow. "I am stepping down. Tonight. I will liquidate everything. I will disappear if that's what you want. Just... please. Let me protect them from the shadows."
Emma looked down at Lily and Rose. The little girls were looking up at Lorenzo, entirely unharmed and completely fascinated by the towering man who shared their eyes.
Emma let out a long, shuddering breath, the massive, suffocating weight of protecting her children alone completely lifting from her shoulders.
