Chapter 10 - The Ultimate Protector

The chaotic, violent energy completely evaporated from the massive luxury mansion.
Adrian walked slowly back up the grand marble staircase and unlocked the heavy wooden doors to his master suite. The room was quiet, bathed in soft morning light.
Claire was sitting on the edge of the plush sofa, holding her baby tightly against her chest. She was still barefoot, wearing her black and white uniform, trembling slightly from the adrenaline of the night. She had expected to be sent away with a small severance check.
Adrian walked slowly toward her.
The cold, terrifying executioner completely vanished. He looked exhausted, but his dark eyes were filled with a profound, overwhelming respect. He didn't look at her like a maid. He looked at her like a savior.
He dropped to one knee right on the plush carpet, entirely ignoring his expensive tailored suit, and looked directly into Claire's tear-filled eyes.
"You saved my life last night, Claire," Adrian whispered softly, his deep voice filled with genuine, undeniable gratitude. "You risked everything to protect a man who didn't even realize he was bleeding. I have never seen loyalty like that."
Claire swallowed hard, looking down. "I just wanted my son to be safe, Mr. Moretti."
"Your job as a maid ended the second you handed me that vial," Adrian stated firmly, leaving absolutely no room for argument.
He reached into his pocket and placed a heavy, solid black titanium keycard into her trembling hand.
"I am elevating you to the Director of Household Operations," Adrian vowed, the absolute power of his massive wealth backing every syllable. "I am quadrupling your salary, providing a private, secure suite in the master wing, and setting up a fully funded trust for your son's future. Nobody will ever, ever come to your door in the dark again. You are no longer the hired help. You are family."
Tears of pure, unadulterated relief and joy spilled down Claire’s cheeks.
