Chapter 3 - The Lethal Secret

Adrian completely froze, his dark eyes locking onto Claire’s terrified face.

He didn't pull his arm away from her trembling grip. He stayed perfectly still on the marble floor. "Tell me."

"It's Marcus," Claire whispered, referring to Adrian’s most trusted, towering head of security. "He's the one coming to my door. He’s trying to scare me into leaving the estate. Because two nights ago, I was cleaning the master study, and I got trapped."

Adrian’s breathing slowed. "Trapped by who?"

"By Marcus... and Victoria," Claire choked out.

Victoria was Adrian’s beautiful, glamorous thirty-something fiancée. They were scheduled to be married in exactly three weeks. Victoria had always played the role of the perfect, loving, devoted partner in front of Adrian, completely masking her cruel arrogance.

"My baby started fussing, so I hid inside the large supply closet to nurse him so I wouldn't disturb them," Claire explained, tears hitting her crisp white collar. "But they didn't come in to read. They locked the study doors."

The cinematic realism of the absolute, apocalyptic betrayal crushed the air from the hallway.

"I heard everything, Mr. Moretti," Claire wept softly. "They are having an affair. But that isn't the worst part. Someone inside this house is planning to hurt you, too."

Adrian’s grip on his handgun tightened until his knuckles turned bone-white. The terrifying apex predator within him officially awakened.

"Victoria told Marcus that the forged Will is finally notarized," Claire whispered, trembling violently. "She said the paperwork bypasses the prenuptial agreement. If you die before the wedding, she inherits the entire syndicate and the offshore accounts."

"And how exactly are they planning to kill me?" Adrian asked, his voice devoid of any human mercy.

👉 Claire reached into her apron, preparing to hand the mafia boss the physical proof of his own assassination.
