Chapter 7 - The Fiancée Arrives

"Vincent, darling! What is the holdup?!"

A shrill, arrogant voice echoed through the lounge. Victoria strutted into the room. She wore a stunning, blood-red designer coat, a massive diamond engagement ring on her finger, and dark sunglasses. She was flanked by two of her own loyal cartel bodyguards.

She was at the airport because she and Vincent were supposed to be flying to Paris tonight for their wedding preparations.

"The pilots have been ready for an hour!" Victoria complained, pulling off her sunglasses. "If we don't take off now, we are going to miss our dinner reservations at—"

Victoria stopped dead in her tracks.

The crystal champagne flute waiting for her on the bar suddenly seemed entirely irrelevant. Her eyes locked onto the plush leather sofa. She saw the beige wool coat. She saw the wavy brown hair. And then, she saw the four-year-old girl with Vincent’s exact dark eyes.

All the blood violently drained from Victoria’s flawless face. She looked as if she had just seen a ghost crawl out of a grave.

"No," Victoria gasped, stumbling backward, her designer heels clicking frantically against the hardwood floor.

Vincent slowly stood up from the floor. He didn't yell. He didn't pull a weapon. The terrifying, cinematic restraint of his mafia persona returned, darker and infinitely more violent than ever before.
