Chapter 1 - The Ghost in the Corridor

The breathtaking, luxurious American hotel corridor in Chicago was an absolute masterpiece of wealth. Glowing crystal chandeliers cast a warm, golden cinematic light over rich, dark wood paneling and highly polished marble floors. It was a space designed exclusively for billionaires, a place where the air itself smelled of expensive cologne and old money.

Ethan Moretti walked down the center of the corridor, radiating arrogant confidence.

The tall, heavily muscular man in his early thirties was the most terrifying syndicate boss in the city. He wore a fitted, short-sleeved black button-down shirt that barely concealed the heavy, intricate tattoos crawling up his arms and across his chest. Walking arm-in-arm with him was Meredith, a stunningly elegant woman in her thirties wearing a polished evening dress and clutching an expensive designer bag.

They were heading to the penthouse suite. Ethan was laughing at something Meredith said, his dark eyes flashing with absolute superiority.

Then, Ethan abruptly froze.

His expensive leather shoes screeched to a halt against the polished marble. His chest stopped moving entirely. The arrogant, ruthless smile completely vanished from his stubbled face, replaced by a look of utter, devastating shock.

He stared down the long corridor, his blood turning to absolute ice.

Kneeling on the marble floor next to a heavy housekeeping cart, holding a cheap plastic spray bottle and a white towel, was a woman.
