Chapter 3 - The Humiliation

A tight close-up on Ethan’s face revealed a man whose entire universe had just collapsed.

The ruthless mafia boss looked completely gutted. His dark, dangerous eyes dropped from Grace’s exhausted face directly to her pregnant stomach. His child. She was carrying his child, and she was on her hands and knees scrubbing a hotel floor in a faded uniform.

"You're cleaning hotel rooms?" Ethan asked, his deep voice breaking, cracking under the crushing weight of a guilt he didn't even fully understand yet.

Beside him, Meredith finally processed the situation. She looked down at the pregnant maid on the floor, then back at Ethan, her elegant face twisting into a mask of pure, aristocratic disgust.

Meredith was well aware that Ethan was technically still married. It was the biggest gossip in high society when the boss's wife mysteriously vanished without a trace six months ago.

Meredith scoffed loudly, ensuring her voice carried down the quiet, luxurious corridor.

"You brought me here," Meredith snapped, her tone dripping with toxic, humiliated anger, "and your ex-wife is cleaning the lobby? This is absolutely pathetic, Ethan. You told me she was living in Europe off your alimony!"
