Chapter 6 - The Return to the Table

Michael pulled out his own smartphone. He recorded the security footage directly off the glowing wall panel, ensuring the time and date stamps were perfectly visible.
He didn't call the police immediately. He knew Marcus had half the police force in his pocket. If Michael called 911, Marcus would hire top lawyers, bury the evidence, and Sophia would be trapped in this house forever.
Michael needed to destroy them both permanently.
He slipped his phone back into his pocket and walked back into the grand dining room.
Marcus was pouring himself a glass of expensive bourbon. Elisa was cutting a piece of roast, looking entirely unbothered. Sophia was still standing beside her chair, silently enduring the pain.
Michael walked directly to the head of the table.
"I couldn't find the present," Michael said, his voice entirely devoid of emotion. "But I found something else in the garage."
Elisa paused, her silver fork hovering over her plate. "What?"
"Sophia's bicycle," Michael stated coldly. "It has an inch of dust on it. It hasn't been touched since the summer."
Marcus scoffed, taking a sip of his bourbon. "Michael, you are becoming paranoid. She took a spill. Kids get hurt."

"Kids get hurt," Michael repeated. He took a slow, deliberate step toward Elisa. "But they don't usually get violently shoved into a marble fireplace by their own mother."
