Chapter 9 - The Fall of the House

"You did what?!" Marcus roared, his face turning dark red with uncontrollable fury. He lunged across the table, trying to grab his brother, but Michael was faster.

Michael effortlessly shoved Marcus backward, sending the powerful lawyer crashing into the glowing Christmas tree. Ornaments shattered violently across the floor.

"You're ruined!" Elisa screamed hysterically, gripping her hair. "You just destroyed our lives!"

"You destroyed your own lives," Michael replied coldly.

He didn't wait for them to recover. Michael scooped Sophia gently into his arms, being incredibly careful to support her injured back, and walked straight out the front door.

Within twenty minutes, the flashing red and blue lights of three police cruisers illuminated the massive estate's snowy driveway.

Elisa was dragged out of the grand front doors in handcuffs, screaming and crying as the officers shoved her into the back of a squad car. She was charged with felony child abuse and domestic battery.

Marcus was arrested right behind her, charged with child endangerment and obstruction of justice. By the time he bonded out of jail the next morning, he had been permanently fired from his law firm, his reputation in the city completely annihilated.
