Chapter 7 - The Panic

The crystal glasses on the table seemed to vibrate with the sheer, suffocating tension in the room.

All the color instantly drained from Elisa’s flawless face. Her designer pearls suddenly looked like a noose around her neck. She dropped her silver fork onto her china plate with a loud, terrified clatter.

"I... I have no idea what you're talking about," Elisa stammered, her elegant, sophisticated facade completely crumbling into desperate panic.

Marcus slammed his fist on the table, standing up. "Michael! That is enough! You are accusing my wife of child abuse! Get out of my house right now!"

"I'm not accusing her, Marcus," Michael said, his voice a low, lethal rumble. "I just watched the security footage."

Marcus froze. His arrogant, authoritative posture completely collapsed. He slowly turned his head to look at his wife.

"Elisa?" Marcus asked, his voice suddenly hollow. "You told me she fell outside while you were on a conference call."

"She did!" Elisa shrieked, standing up so fast her chair scraped violently against the floor. "He's lying! He's trying to ruin our family!"

Michael didn't argue. He pulled his smartphone from his pocket, pulled up the recorded video, and slid the phone across the smooth mahogany table directly to his brother.
