Chapter 2 - The Fearless Knees

To understand the absolute, suffocating terror of this moment, you had to understand Dominic’s reputation.

He was a ruthless, terrifying enforcer. Before the ambush, the mere sound of his heavy footsteps made grown men tremble. Since the injury, he had become a caged monster. He had aggressively fired six private nurses and three physical therapists in a single month because he absolutely refused to let anyone touch him or see him vulnerable.

Standing in the background shadows by the heavy bedroom door were Mrs. Gable, the older female housekeeper, and a towering, heavily armed bodyguard in a dark suit. They stood completely frozen in utter shock, waiting for Dominic to draw a weapon and fire the young maid.

But Fay completely ignored the broken porcelain. She ignored the spilled coffee soaking into her cheap shoes.

With incredibly slow, deliberate cinematic realism, Fay rushed forward. She bypassed the bodyguard entirely and dropped directly to her knees on the hard floor, right in the middle of the mess, positioning herself directly in front of the furious mafia boss’s wheelchair.

"Don't touch me," Dominic growled aggressively, his jaw clenched so tightly the muscles visibly ticked. He tried to push himself backward in the heavy chair, a deep, primal panic flashing in his dark eyes.

Fay didn't listen. She reached out with both hands and firmly pressed down on his spasming, paralyzed leg.

She locked her brown eyes directly onto his.

"Deep breath," Fay commanded. Her voice wasn't a nervous whisper. It was steady, absolute, and completely unshakable.

👉 The bodyguard stepped forward to physically remove her, but the mafia boss's reaction stopped him dead in his tracks.
