Chapter 8 - The Financial Audit

The heavy, dramatic tension in the kitchen completely evaporated.
Dominic let out a slow breath, the terrifying executioner vanishing back into the shadows. He turned his wheelchair to face Fay, who was still standing quietly by the sink. She hadn't looked terrified during the violent confrontation, and she wasn't looking at him with pity now.
"Mrs. Gable told me you applied for an advance on your salary last week," Dominic said, his voice returning to a calm, professional tone. "Why?"
Fay hesitated for a fraction of a second. She wiped her hands on her apron. "My younger brother is in the hospital, sir. He needs a specialized surgery that my insurance won't cover. I was trying to cover the initial deposit."
Dominic’s jaw tightened. While he had been throwing plates and wallowing in his own misery, this young woman had been quietly scrubbing his floors while carrying the agonizing weight of a dying sibling. And yet, she was the only one brave enough to drop to her knees and help him breathe.
"How much is the surgery?" Dominic asked.
"Eighty thousand dollars, sir," Fay replied quietly.
Dominic didn't pull out a checkbook. He didn't offer her a loan.
He pulled out his encrypted smartphone, tapped the screen twice, and made a single transfer from his private offshore trust.
"Check your phone," Dominic commanded softly.

Fay frowned, pulling her cheap cell phone from her pocket. She looked at the screen. The cinematic realism of her absolute shock was breathtaking.
👉 Fay thought he had paid for the surgery, but the number on the screen was a complete, multi-million-dollar shockwave.
