Chapter 5 - The Poisoned Trust

Preston stared at the screen, his cinematic, slow eye movement absorbing the catastrophic reality of the messages.
His mother, Eleanor, suffered from a rare, rapidly progressing neurological condition. Three months ago—the exact time Vanessa had started threatening the housekeeper—Eleanor’s health had mysteriously and violently deteriorated. She had gone from walking in the gardens to being completely bedridden and terrified to speak.
Preston had authorized an unlimited medical trust to ensure she received the best private care in the state. Vanessa, playing the devoted future daughter-in-law, had volunteered to manage the medical staff and the pharmaceutical deliveries so Preston could focus on his hotels.
Preston quickly typed back to Warren: Where did the money go?
Warren replied instantly.
Vanessa fired your mother's licensed doctors three months ago. She hired a disgraced, unlicensed physician under a shell company. He has been systematically over-medicating your mother with heavy sedatives to induce dementia-like symptoms. Vanessa has been siphoning forty thousand dollars a month from the medical trust directly into her personal offshore accounts.
Preston couldn't breathe. The sheer, suffocating magnitude of the betrayal hit him with the kinetic force of a freight train.
Vanessa wasn't just a gold digger. She was actively, intentionally poisoning his elderly mother in the dark, stealing her medical funds, and threatening the only housekeeper who knew the truth with the death of her child.

Preston slowly put the phone back into his pocket. He looked across the room. Vanessa was clinking her champagne glass with a group of wealthy wives.
👉 Preston didn't call the police; he prepared to execute a public, apocalyptic destruction of Vanessa's entire existence.
