Chapter 4 - The Unseen Threat

Clara didn't ask Matteo to repeat himself. She didn't comfort him.
Instead, her eyes immediately darted toward the heavy mahogany bedroom door. She stared at the thick wood for two full seconds. Then, with terrifyingly subtle intelligence, she briefly shifted her gaze toward the ceiling corner—looking exactly where she knew the hidden surveillance camera was, without staring directly into the lens.
She knew they were being watched by Vincent. But she also knew they were being hunted by someone else.
Matteo reached out, his small, trembling fingers desperately grabbing Clara’s hand. He was terrified.
"What did he say?" Vincent growled, his piercing gray-blue eyes frantically scanning the screen. "Dominic, what the hell is she looking at?"
Dominic didn't answer right away. His tough, disciplined eyes had shifted away from the main monitor to a smaller screen on the far left of the wall. It was the hallway camera just outside Matteo’s bedroom.
"Boss," Dominic said, his voice dropping into a deadly, tense register. "Look at camera four."
Vincent snapped his head toward the smaller screen. His blood instantly ran completely cold.
Standing in the hallway, pressed flat against the wall right outside Matteo’s door, was Leo. Vincent’s underboss. His most trusted lieutenant. The man who had run the syndicate alongside him for fifteen years.

Leo wasn't just standing there. He had his ear pressed to the crack in the door, listening intently. And in his right hand, gripped tightly against his leg, was a heavy black pistol with a silencer screwed onto the barrel.
👉 Vincent realized a traitor was standing outside his son’s door, but the object the boy was about to pull out would explain everything.
