Chapter 3 - The Silver Trigger

A tight, cinematic close-up captured the absolute terror on Sophie’s small face.
She looked at the black lacquered box, then looked directly into Dante’s dark, intense eyes. She leaned in closer, her voice dropping into a frantic, desperate whisper that only the mafia boss could hear.
"Uncle Marcus put something silver inside," Sophie whispered.
The cinematic tension in the room instantly spiked to an apocalyptic level.
Dante didn't move a single muscle, but his slow eye movement shifted. He knew exactly what "something silver" meant in his line of work. A silver tripwire. A micro-detonator. He was inches away from opening a box wired with enough C4 explosive to vaporize himself and half of his loyal guests.
And it hadn't been planted by a rival cartel. It had been planted by his own blood.
Across the opulent ballroom, standing near the shadow of a golden pillar, was Marcus. He was Dante’s right-hand man, his most trusted lieutenant, wearing a flawlessly tailored suit.
But Marcus wasn't acting like a confident underboss. He was shifting nervously, his face slick with a cold, greasy sweat. As he watched Dante kneel down and speak to the little girl, pure, unadulterated panic completely hijacked his nervous system.
Marcus knew the child had been hiding under the tables playing hide-and-seek. He knew she had seen him tamper with the box.

👉 Marcus prepared to draw his weapon, but Dante was already ten steps ahead of the traitor's desperate move.
