Chapter 5 - The Lethal Whisper

The heavy, agonizing silence in the ballroom was absolutely suffocating.

Marcus was completely frozen, his hand still hovering nervously near his jacket pocket. He was surrounded by two hundred innocent guests, but he felt entirely, utterly alone under Dante’s pitch-black stare.

Dante didn't raise his voice. He didn't draw a weapon or cause a massive, chaotic panic. The cinematic realism of his absolute control was far more terrifying than any shouting match.

"What did you do?" Dante asked.

It was a lethal whisper. It barely echoed across the room, but Marcus read his lips perfectly.

Marcus’s tailored suit suddenly felt like a straightjacket. He looked at the heavy mahogany doors at the back of the ballroom, desperately calculating if he could run. But before he could even twitch a muscle, Dante offered a subtle, almost invisible nod to the shadows.

Six massive, heavily armed syndicate enforcers stepped out from behind the dark red velvet curtains. They didn't draw their guns and alert the high-society guests. They simply moved with lethal precision, silently locking the grand double doors and seamlessly blocking every single exit in the room.

The trap was completely shut. Marcus was locked inside a cage with the apex predator he had just tried to murder.

Dante offered the confused, wealthy crowd a charming, flawlessly manufactured smile.
